Emergency Medical Services
Park Ridge is very proud of the level of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) that it provides. It operates three state-of-the-art Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances (two operate 24-7 and one is in reserve) and both of its front line engines are equipped with complete Advanced Life Support medical equipment. These engines respond with a minimum of one paramedic, and the Department has more than forty licensed paramedics currently on its roster. Approximately sixty-five percent of all EMS calls require some form of Advanced Life Support services. We take great pride in our highly trained staff. Our medics attend monthly training administered by a nurse educator from the EMS system. Every year they must complete 30 hours of continuing education, re-certify in CPR, pass system required testing and attend classes to enhance their skills and knowledge when offered.
The Department responds to an average of twenty-six hundred emergency medical calls each year. The City of Park Ridge is home to a level 1-trauma center; Lutheran General Hospital located in Park Ridge and is minutes from Resurrection Hospital in Chicago. Patients are transported to either hospital quickly and efficiently. The Department responds to all emergency calls inclusive of dispatch time in 6 minutes or less 90 % of the time.
