The Park Ridge Fire Department was established in 1893 with volunteer firefighters. Today, the 52 full-time members of the Department provide fire suppression, emergency medical and other emergency services to approximately 37,775 residents within its jurisdiction. While the Department is primarily a member of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Division III, it is also a member of MABAS Division 20. The MABAS system allows the Department to be included in a cooperative, systematic method of sharing resources and personnel with other Fire Departments throughout Illinois.
Continuous training in firefighting and pre-hospital emergency medical care is provided to ensure proficiency in all areas. Members of the department are certified firefighters through the Office of the State Fire Marshal and are licensed paramedics through the Illinois Department of Public Health. The Department's EMS Division is operated under the guidance of St. Francis Emergency Medical Services System. The department has trained personnel for special teams which include:
- Hazardous Materials Team (HAZMAT)
- Technical Rescue Team (TRT)
- Underwater Rescue and Recovery Team
- Fire/Arson Investigations Team
The Fire Department operates 2 engine companies, 2 Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances, 1 Ladder Tower, a Heavy Rescue Squad and 1 Command Van. In addition, the department has 1 ALS ambulance and 1 engine in reserve.
